Retro Fit

"Preparation is the key to a successful retro fit solution"

Drives and Automation can undertake all aspects of the retro fit including: -

 - Initial site survey - record and photograph
 - Review of existing information, drawings etc
 - Preparation of drawings
 - Mechanical engineering of installation
 - Onsite fitment and wiring
 - Commissioning with full set up
 - Documentation

Why
Retro fit?
Retro fitting is an especially suitable solution in the following instances: -

- Only part of a system requires replacing due to failure - eg drive module failure
- One or more system items are unsupportable - eg retro fit of obsolete drive module
- Space is limited and existing cubicles are in good condition
- Time does not permit full replacement and re-cabling
- Finances are limited
Case Studies
Steel Vessel Tilt Drives.

Obsolete
Mentor 1 front-end controllers with NEI power stacks were removed and replaced with Control Techniques M1200R drives, maintaining a 2400A overload capability. The fields regulators were upgraded to FXM5 field units controlled by the drive. Each 600Ton vessel is tilted using two independent DC
motors each controlled by a DC Drive. Each pair of drives were configured for load share.
Second processor cards were fitted to all drives. On board software was written to provide brake control and mechanical protection with trips such as stall, reverse run, runaway etc.
The operational logic was integrated into the existing PLC control system.

All work was carried out to a tight shutdown schedule.

Generator field controllers

Obsolete and problematical field converters were replaced by 4 off 45A DC Drive modules. The design incorporated features to compensate for the high inductance of the generator fields and calibrated to produce excellent linearity between field settings.

The project necessitated replacement of the low voltage isolation transformers and integration of the existing analogue overspill voltage control system.

Interlocking with the isolation contactors on each field was also included.

The equipment was designed installed and commissioned over a shutdown period.

Full documentation being provided.
